THE POWER OF GTBANK’S *737#

We are on a digital train, the whole lot of us! Long time ago no one in her wildest dreams will ever think that a code could be used to do so many things at just a dial on a mobile phone. But we are on a fast digital train and the innovative businesses that we have around are really making dreams come true. Now, you can buy airtime on a phone, transfer money to someone anywhere, and you can check account balance…. with just a code.

Before you would say BVN! customers have left banks that are not ready to be compliant with the digital trend to those who are ready to satisfy their customers with digitalized services. Now the competition begins no doubt.

The recent revolutionary initiative of Nigeria’s foremost financial institution, Guaranty Trust Bank plc, launching a mobile channel which enables GTBank customers to conveniently perform third party transfers to both GTBank and other bank account holders in Nigeria, via their mobile phones, by simply dialling the USSD short code *737# with details of the amount and account number (NUBAN) of the beneficiary is phenomenal.

USSD code *737# is not just a short code, but a code that has the power to make you do so many transactions at a goal without stepping into the bank for the transaction. Much more,*737# is safe, simple and convenient.

For you to be able to use this power code *737#, first you need to be a GTBank Customer, then you need to receive a onetime token for transactions on internet banking only for your account. You can validate transactions of up to N200, 000, which is valid for 60 seconds and it requires the last six (6) digits of your Naira MasterCard.

Furthermore, the phone number where the purchase is made from MUST be a number registered with GTBank. The service is available to Glo, MTN, Airtel and Etisalat subscribers. The money is deducted directly from your GTBank account, with a daily recharge limit of N10, 000.

According to Mr. Segun Agbaje, Managing Director/CEO of the Bank, commenting on the innovation said that “we will continue to leverage technology to make banking, especially payments and transfers, faster, safer and more convenient for all our customers. He further stated that, “this service addresses the electronic banking requirements of our customers, irrespective of their phone type”.

To initiate transfers to a GTBank account, a customer dials *737*1*Amount*NUBAN Account No# e.g. *737*1*1000*1234567890# from the mobile number registered with the Bank. For transfers to beneficiaries in other Bank’s, customers should simply dial *737*2*Amount*NUBAN Account No # e.g. *737*2*1000*1234567890#. Customers will then require the last four digits of their GTBank Naira MasterCard to authenticate each transaction.

The code can be used to transfer between GTBank Nuban Accounts; it can be used to transfer to other banks like, Zenith Bank, Fidelity Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank and many more.

One of the amazing things you can also do with this code is to load airtime on your mobile phone and also buy data plan on your phone. This unique code *737# can alsobe used to pay for cable subscriptions with ease.

For instance, you can buy airtime for a friend, and check your account balance anywhere. This power code makes it faster, convenient and simple for GTBank customers to use instead of going to queue and start filling forms at the bank

It’s possible to make quick transaction on the go without using your banking token. This can be generated anywhere and anytime and it is very easy to use.

The only challenge you can get from this short code is network congestion. Apart from that it is a smooth business.
